Well known for its sub-tropical Abbey Gardens, Tresco has much to offer day trippers and visitors. The Abbey Gardens feature high up on the ‘must see’ list of many Scilly first timers and regular visitors alike. In the Gardens you will find a wonderful mixture of colours, from exotic pink proteas and orange birds of paradise, to huge palms. Outside the Gardens, Tresco is an island of contrasts. The southern half of the island is characterised by beautifully manicured grounds and paths and the stunning white sand beaches of Pentle Bay and Appletree Bay. The rugged northern downs, home to Cromwell’s Castle, King Charles’ Castle and Piper’s Hole, are dramatic and often windswept.

To the south, the Great Pool is a good place to spot migratory birds.

For food and drink, there is a cafe located in the Abbey Gardens, the New Inn, Tresco’s pub, a great watering hole and lunch spot, and The Ruin Beach Cafe at Old Grimsby (new for the 2012 season).
