Hugh Town is the hub of St. Mary’s. It is located on the sandbar that separates the Garrison from the main body of St. Mary’s. Hugh Town is the centre of island life and home to most of St. Mary’s shops, hotels, restaurants and watering holes. In Hugh Town you will also find the Tourist Information Centre (TIC), post office, chemist and banks (Barclays and Lloyds TSB).

On the south side of Hugh Town you will find Porthcressa Beach, and The Wheelhouse! Porthcressa Beach is a popular spot with visitors and locals alike for sunbathing, swimming and generally relaxing. The stunning views are ever changing as the tide ebbs and flows and yachts come and go.
